A Must-See, Powerful Exhibit Open April 2
- Oct. 2, 2005
Presented By:
Imagine
a world without drugs. Where teens are not fooled into taking death pills
disguised as harmless fun. Where children can play in their neighborhoods
without fear of drug violence. Where we dont have to spend millions every
year, and put our officers lives on the line, arresting traffickers. And
one where we dont have to experience the agony of loved ones suffering
from a tragic addiction.
Target America: Opening Eyes to the Damage Drugs Cause,
a powerful new exhibit developed by the Drug Enforcement Administration
Museum, will explore the impact of these costs to society costs to
children, costs to the environment, costs to the body and provide an
important look at how each visitor can work to break the cycle of drug abuse
and drug-related violence.
Target
America
begins with an introductory area, paying tribute to September 11, then
explores the opium and heroin connections in Afghanistan and looks at the
global impact of drugs and terror. The exhibit moves to an in-depth looks at
drug production and narco-terrorism and then presents an overview of some of
the costs and consequences of drugs on our society,
Visitors can explore the many interactive kiosks, learn about drug
trafficking in Michigan, see artifacts from Ground Zero, step inside a
methamphetamine lab, stop by the Discovery Corner for educational take-home
literature and other resources, and more.
Target
America: Opening Eyes to the Damage Drugs Cause
was developed in partnership with AFFNA DEA Museum Foundation, The Center
for Substance Abuse Prevention, The National Guard, The National Institute
on Drug Abuse, The Office of National Drug Control Policy and The
Partnership for a Drug Free America.
The
exhibit will be at the Science Center through Oct. 2, 2005. Admission to the
exhibit is free for Science Center members and is free with paid General
Admission to the Science Center for non-members.
