The New Detroit Science Center will offer seven unique camp experiences, including six all-new camp programs and the popular Science Sampler Camp for children entering grades 1 � 6 (children must be age 6 by Nov. 30, 2004). Five-day camps for budding young scientists include:


Science Camps:
  • Science Sampler
    June 21 - 25

    Discover five areas of science all in one unique camp! Campers will explore physical, space, life, earth and technology sciences through hands-on activities, workshops and more.

  • Robots and Rockets
    June 28 - July 2

    Experiment with rockets and Newton�s Laws of Motion. Make and launch your own model rocket.  Learn how robots are used, why they are important to us and what the future holds for this technology. Learn how to program a robot to perform simple tasks.

  • Water, Water, Everywhere
    July 12 - 16

    Discover how area residents get their water. Learn about wetlands. Find out about the different plants and animals that live in our watershed. Field trips will take us water testing. Girl Scouts can earn their Water Drop Patch at the conclusion of this camp.

  • Explore Your World
    July 19 - 23

    Dig into the Earth and look up into the sky. Explore the unique weather and geology of Michigan. Create instruments to measure weather conditions.

  • E is for Ecology
    July 26 - 30

    Develop an awareness of the different habitats that animals occupy and man�s effect on those environments. Learn how we can improve the environment through recycling and habitat restoration. Create a habitat to take home.

  • Conservation Station
    August 2 - 6

    Learn about native wildlife. Discover the different ways that water and soil conservation take place. Take a field trip to natural areas. Cub Scouts can earn their Conservation Badge at the conclusion of this camp.

  • Ideas and Inventions
    August 9 - 13

    Build bridges, towers and other structures. Discover the basic principles of levers, pulleys and gears. Examine forces and the basic principles of construction. Experiment with machines and understand how they help us with our daily tasks.

All camps for children entering grades 1 - 6 will feature exploration in our five exhibit laboratories, IMAX� Dome Theatre films, Dassault Syst�mes Planetarium shows, hands-on classroom programs, outdoor habitat exploration and walking trips to nearby cultural institutions.

5. Registration and payment must be received two weeks prior to camp date. Registration is not

  • All sales final and non-refundable.
