Adrenaline Rush: The Science of Risk
Take a breathtaking journey from extraordinary heights in Adrenaline Rush: The Science of Risk, presented by Audi at The New Detroit Science Center. Adrenaline Rush features spectacular footage of extreme skydiving and base-jumping. Skydiving teams will bring audiences along on a secure yet death-defying ride, initiating their jumps from speeding aircrafts miles above Florida�s Keys and California�s Mojave Desert. Base-jumping teams will leap off spectacular cliffs and mountains, culminating in 4,500-foot dives off the magnificent Fjords of Norway.

In the film, audiences will meet Adrian Nicholas and his team, who have raised the bar on the possibilities for human flight through research and experiment. Nicholas also leads his team of jumpers and scientists on a dramatic experiment in which the 15th century specifications and drawings of Leonardo da Vinci�s first-ever parachute are put to the ultimate test of flight. Adrenaline Rush will deliver a soaring experience and a taste for the charge that inspires skydivers. As da Vinci wrote five centuries ago, "Once you have tasted flight you will walk the Earth with your eyes toward skyward. For there you have been and there you long to return."

Dolphins
From the dazzling coral reefs of the Bahamas to the wind-swept seas of Patagonia, Dolphins takes audiences on an
underwater adventure with inquisitive Atlantic spotted dolphins, acrobatic dusky dolphins and the familiar bottlenose
dolphins. Viewers will meet a young woman scientist, Dr. Kathleen Dudzinski, and her two colleagues, mentor Dr. Bernd
W�rsig and Dr. Alejandro Acevedo-Gutierrez, as they lead viewers on an exploration into their fascinating world. Click HERE for show schedule.
Solar Max
Solar Max is a breathtaking giant-screen adventure that explores man's quest throughout time for knowledge about the awesome vastness and mysterious power of our closest star, the sun. Audiences will be able to look directly at the sun and see it in a way never seen before, through the eyes of the large-format film camera. The film uses images captured by the Solar and Heliospheric Observer (SOHO) to generate film images for the IMAX� screen, providing audiences with a spectacular sense of actually being there. The film combines live images of the sun with live images shot around the world at solar observatories of the past, present and future. Portraying a star that is peaceful yet dangerous, Solar Max allows viewers to vividly experience the sun's power and beauty like never before.

Dassault Syst�mes Planetarium
Our newest theater is the state-of-the-art Digital Dome
Planetarium. In this virtual reality environment you�ll not only be able to experience the wonders of a star filled sky, but also fly among them. We�ll travel the universe to experience nebulae, galaxies, supernovae and even journey into the depths of a black hole.
This tilted-dome theater puts you in the center of an awesome journey. The 50-foot-wide, three-story-high planetarium dome above you is transformed through the technical wizardry of the Digistar II star projector, Barco wide format video projectors, and other equipment into any destination in the Universe.
Teachers and their students also are invited to experience the Planetarium by choosing from a wide variety of age appropriate programs all based on the Michigan Curriculum Standards. Lead by a Planetarium educational instructor, students will investigate the planets of our solar system, the motions of the Sun, Moon and Earth and even delve into the fascinating world of weather. Spring Skies
Spring Skies 2004 is a totally live show with triggered automated
sequences that highlight some of the brightest stars in the sky.
Planetarium presenters will identify objects visible to both the
unaided eye and telescopes, helping audience members locate the
bright planet Jupiter and investigate constellations such as Ursa
Major, Leo, Bootes, Virgo and many others. Also in this program,
planetarium presenters will show audiences how to see a new comet,
which will be visible to the unaided eye this May. The "NEAT"
comet, named for the program that discovered it, will be the best
comet for viewing since the Hale-Bopp comet in 1997. At the end of
the show, audience members will be transported through the stars to
visit the realm of the galaxies with close-up views of the Whirlpool

The Little Star That Could
Limited Saturday Showings
Young visitors to The New Detroit Science Center will soon be able to take a magical journey through space with Little Star, the "star" of the Dassault Syst�mes Planetarium show The Little Star That Could, debuting Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004. Little Star, a small yellow star, is searching for planets of his own to protect and keep warm. Along his journey, he meets many different stars, each a wonderfully animated character, and learns what makes each star special. Eventually, he finds that he's had planets all along; they were just too small to see. The animated planets introduce themselves and it turns out that the Little Star is actually our own Sun. MarsQuest
MarsQuest the planetarium show traces Mars through history, from an "incantation" of the various War God forms given by different cultures, to the early observations of Schiaparelli and Lowell and the infamous "canals" that led to science-fiction stories about Martians. The show details the Mars of our time as seen in the night sky, through binoculars and telescopes, and from our Mars explorations. Mission findings from Viking, Pathfinder and Mars Global Surveyor feature reports on Mars weather and climate. The show compares the climate and terrain of Earth and Mars, and presents the current thinking about the history of the planet and a rationale for future exploration. Lastly, the show includes a 10-minute live portion where findings and images from the current Mars missions are presented.

How does gravity affect the moon, stars, and comets? The Tilt-O-Rama
says it all! By lowering someone�s center of gravity to about 5 feet below their
feet, Science Stage presenters become human pendulums.
How do astronauts maneuver in space with the absence of gravity? See it
for yourself as Science Stage presenters use the Air Car to drastically reduce the
friction between a person and the ground by hovering on a cushion of air.

DTE Energy Sparks Theater
 The DTE Energy Sparks Theater offers "spark-tacular"
demonstrations using electricity.
This breath-taking program demonstrates the power of magnetism and shows
how light, sound, and heat affect the world.
Thousands of volts are generated during every
demonstration� but don't worry, the DTE Energy Sparks Theater is very safe. The whole space
is built within a Faraday cage, which keeps electromagnetic waves under control and
ensures the safety of other activities throughout the Science Center.
DTE Energy Sparks Theater presentations are FREE with general admission.
