Traveling Scouts
Can’t come to us? We’ll come to your next scout meeting! Traveling scout workshops offer hands-on activities and themed educational programs. All workshop activities are designed to fulfill Try-It patch requirements or Cub Scout Academics requirements while providing scouts with a unique experience.
Our workshop-style programs are designed for small group settings.
Each program takes approximately an hour and a half. Program space requirements include tables and chairs for scouts and one six-foot table or equivalent for the Detroit Science Center educator. Traveling Scout Programs also include Try-Its Patch/Belt Loop and Science Center patch.

Costs:

$125 for first hour and a half of programming/ $75 for each additional hour of programming.

$225 for Star Lab Program AND workshop

Includes two staff members, setup and takedown.

Travel included within 30 miles of the Detroit Science Center

Additional $.50/mile beyond 30 miles.
Traveling Scouts Notables:
- Maximum of 30 scout participants per workshop.
- Scout leader or chaperone must be present.
- Traveling Scout programs should be booked at least four weeks in advance. Our Reservations team will confirm program availability for your requested date and time within three business days of inquiry.
- A 50% non-refundable deposit is due within two weeks of making the reservation with the remaining balance due two weeks before the scheduled program. Programs are subject to cancellation if deposit or payment is not received upon due dates. Groups canceling a program less than two weeks before the reserved date will receive a credit to be used at the Detroit Science Center. All programs are subject to availability.
StarLab
For a truly unique experience, we can bring star gazing to your pack or den with our inflatable, portable planetarium. During each session, our educator will give tours of the current sky using the STARLAB’s star projector, featuring bright stars, constellations, planets and the moon.
StarLab Notables & Costs:
- Each session is 30 minutes (2 sessions/hour) Maximum 25 participants per session.
- STARLAB is an indoor planetarium with a requirement of a 25’x30’ area, minimum ceiling height of 10’ and a grounded outlet.
